Dr.Ding and his team hasfocused theirresearch on the lacrimalgland (LG)and dry eye, especially the duct system, andits role in lacrimal secretion anddry eye. Some ofhis notable achievements, eitherthefirst orone ofthe firsts inthe world, are:1) identified the presence of nitric oxide synthase in LG andcharacterized the role nitric oxide may play in lacrimal function;2) character.ized the neural control system, especially the sympathetic system, in LG;3)identified the effect ofpregnancy on LG function and its role in the pathogene.sis of dry eye;4) standardized the nomenclature of the LG duct system, andcharacterized its anatomical, histological, functional characteristics, and its distinctive roles in lacrimasecretion;5) along with his collaborators,confirmed that the LG ducts are functionally involved in thesecretion and modification of lacrimal fluid production.Dr.Ding s te am is one of the onlythree laboratories in the world that focuses on the studies of LG ductsHis research has be
